Amazing Machine

It’s quite a super-complex machine we are facing when we sit down to meditate, folks! This is why I always feel compelled to encourage those who are taking their first steps in practice, “Be patient. Don’t expect ‘results.’ Just apply consistent efforts, and over time, some depth and stability will naturally manifest, of themselves.”

But we’re expecting our delivery by Amazon Prime. It’s gotta be here in 2-3 days, or we feel edgy. This is the strong-force of mental habit which bends us toward impatience, frustration with the natural emergence of confidence in practice.

“Just practice, and all is coming” is the well-known teaching of the founder of Ashtanga yoga, Pattabhi Jois. And the same is absolutely true for Zen. And learning the violin, and learning a new language, and doing anything else which involves training the mind/body.
